Chères Consoeurs et Chers Confrères,
It gives me great pleasure to invite you to our final Diner Amical in 2017 – Our Annual Christmas Dinner to be held at Alessandro Pavoni – Ormeggio at the Spit.
Alessandro and I met a few weeks ago at the Annual Awards Night of the Good Food Guide where he was re-awarded an outstanding 2 hats which clearly marks him as one of the very best Chefs in the country. The Good Food Guide describes his success as Brilliant, a new-wave Italian by the sea. Alessandro was kind enough to give us his dining room on Monday 04th December exclusively which will make the evening particularly spectacular.
When asking Alessandro what he would like to create for our Christmas inspired menu he said ‘it isn’t Christmas in Italy without lamb, polenta and panettone’. He was so excited about creating this menu for us.
We will start the evening with Finger Food & Bubbles overlooking the beautiful Middle Harbour, followed by a an Italian inspired 4 course Christmas Menu with beautiful wines selected by Sommelier, Alessio Domenici.
Given that this is the final dinner of 2017 we have taken the risk and given a minimum of 40 guests, with this in mind we strongly hope to encourage your attendance.
I am personally very excited to take you all back to Ormeggio at the Spit, some of you will remember we had a beautiful Luncheon there about 2 years ago & the evening promises to be one of the culinary highlights of our Annual Calendar.
I look forward to celebrating the art of the table on a mild summers night, welcoming the Christmas Spirit and sharing the comradery we are well known for.

Alessandro Pavoni Bio:
Alessandro began his career in Brescia, in Italy’s north, working at Carlo Magno with the famous Iginio Massari and Giuseppe Maffioli. After working in various Michelin star venues such as La Rotonde in France and the two Michelin starred Villa Fiordaliso on Lake Garda, Alessandro broadened his culinary horizons working in Bermuda at the famous Restaurant Lido before moving to Sydney permanently in 2003. He assumed the role of Executive Chef at the Park Hyatt in 2005, managing a team of over 30 chefs.
In 2009, Alessandro’s dream of owning his own restaurant became a reality with Ormeggio at The Spit. Ormeggio at The Spit received 2 SMH Chefs Hats in 2013 and has since maintained this prestigious rating, also appearing on Australia’s most loved cooking show, MasterChef.
Crave international food festival 2012 noted that Alessandro is “one of the few Australian chefs exploring the cutting edge of contemporary Italian cuisine” and this continues to be so.
Today Alessandro has four successful restaurants (Ormeggio at The Spit, Via Alta, Chiosco by Ormeggio and Sotto Sopra) with Sotto Sopra recently being awarded 1 SMH Chefs Hat. He has written an authoritative Cookbook “A Lombardian Cookbook”, leads gourmet tours throughout Italy and is an executive committee member of CIRA, Council of Italian Restaurants of Australia.
